Drew Stafford scored three goals to defeat Boston 3-2. Drew Stafford is also a cunt. You know who else is reaching cunt status – the referee that called a bullshit goalie interference call on Shawn Thornton which gave Buffalo the power play where Drew Stafford scored his third goal.
I’m not going to totally blame this loss on that referee because the Bruins defense was terrible. Guys looked sluggish and out of place, but it was hard to tell because NESN’s HD broadcast looked like it burst through the wall and stepped out of a fucking Delorean.
The power play looked awful too (1-7 on the night), especially when Boston was given a 5-on-3 advantage. There was a sequence in the second period where Steve Kampfer, Zdeno Chara and Marc Savard must have cycled the puck 4 or 5 times until Savard shot it into a defender while the guy was virtually on top of him. Does this make any sense? Is Savard’s brain will a plate of scrambled eggs?
Maybe it’s just me, but when the most exciting and passionate thing happens at the end of the game, then I’m concerned. Maybe it was the time off that got Boston off it’s game. Maybe it’s because Dan Paille’s mom was watching and they were overly concerned about being fuck ups. Maybe they just played a shitty game of hockey. Whatever it was, that’s not the Bruins team we’re used to seeing – or is it? Certainly there’s been moments this season (and last season) were Boston “forgot” to show up during games or where Claude Julien made excuses for them.
Tuukka Rask looked solid last night despite Drew Stafford being his kryptonite. I don’t know what it is with this Bruins team, but they always seem to play lackadaisical when Tuukka is in net. Maybe it is an unfair perception, but something has the give. The kid played well night and between swiss cheese defense and bad officiating, he takes another loss.
While one loss shouldn’t throw Bruins fan into a negative frenzy, it is a little disheartening to see them play like this after have 3 days off. We’ll have to see how this flows into Montreal tonight as the Bruins take on the Habs in the second of back-to-back games.
